Linz - Im Linzer Kunstmuseum Lentos ist von 10. März bis 5. Juni (Vernissage am 9. März um 19.00 Uhr) zum ersten Mal seit rund 20 Jahren in Österreich eine umfassende Werkschau von Gottfried Helnwein zu sehen. Auch wenn man sie nicht mag: Ins Gedächtnis haben sie sich auf jeden Fall gebrannt – die grimassierenden, oft bandagierten und bis zur Unerträglichkeit verzerrten, stets in Riesenformaten gemalten Fratzengesichter, die uns Gottfried Helnwein seit den 1970ern vorsetzt.
Ein Hauptwerk schuf Helnwein im Spätherbst 1988 in Köln, als er in Erinnerung an die “Reichskristallnacht” auf einem hundert Meter langen Band zwischen Dom und Ludwig-Museum eine Reihe monsteriöser Kindergesichter affichierte. Helnweins politische Kraft steht auch im Mittelpunkt dieser umfassenden Personale im Lentos. Ihr Ziel ist es, den Blick weg vom Provokateur auf den Künstler Gottfried Helnwein zu lenken. ...
